Retelling a story “with support” is a kindergarten standard. A support that works well for my students—and for me, timewise—is to give each student their own set of picture cards. I model how to use the cards to retell the story. After that, it’s time for the students to try it on their own. First, they have to put the pictures in order. Then, they begin retelling the story. I move about the room and try to listen to each student tell at least part of the story. So good for their language skills!
