I did the assessment appointments this year and I loved it!! Do you report out to parents after the assessments to let them know "how their child did"? I know I have parents concerned that their child is "behind" and I want to give them some kind of info...Thanks!
That’s great that you were able to do assessment appointments. That is usually a district decision and some thing that is done districtwide. I’m glad you were able to make it happen. I like to provide parents with class information (no names included) so they can come to some conclusions by themselves. It is powerful to provide, for example, letter name data and then let them say oh mine there a lot of kids you know letters and my child knows none. I am also sending home a letter that explains that their child will be participating in interventions with me and what that will look like and asking for their help. I will include that in a post coming up within a few days.
Oh! That would be great! Yes- we have half days in the morning the first three days of school and my principal gave me the ok to do assessments on those afternoonsl. I'm super happy I did them- I got so much information, from the assessments themselves and through informal talks with the parents! Thank you so much for encouraging us to try this!!
That sounds like a fabulous way to start kindergarten since they can barely make it through a whole day the first couple of weeks anyway. I’m glad that worked out so well for you, and I agree that those initial informal conversations with parents really get everyone started on the right foot.
Could you share your letter/sound ID sheet? Also, do you have parents stay in the room during the assessments or do they fill out their forms in another place?
Hi Amy, yes the parents stay in the room because the assessments usually only take 10 or 15 minutes. The Letter ID sheet is a Word Document at school. Please email me (missbusybeekindergarten@gmail.com) and request it and I will attach it in the reply. Thanks!

Hey, Amy, I'm waiting for an email from you so I can attach the Letter ID sheet.
Oops, you did email me. And I just sent it!
